As you know, I came back from my first ever trip to Rome. It was reaaally cool. I visited a ton of places  but my favorite one was the book store i found by the Parthenon. I found a really old latin dictionary there, and spent an afternoon glancing through it.  Here are forty or so of my favorite latin phrases and what they mean, according to my own translations:

  • Acontium: aluminum foil
  • Bardus: slow, dull
  • Comminus: close combat
  • Electus: chosen
  • Extremus: last, extreme
  • Gravatus:  super sick
  • Gravis: serious, important
  • Hodiernus: respctful
  • Honorabilis: respectful
  • Idoneus: proper, fitting, capabl
  • Ignavus: very dumb
  • Incorruptus: genuine, pure
  • Levisticum: locust wings
  • Liquidus: fluid, liquid, flowing
  • Mandragora: mandarin
  • Prudens: prudent, wise
  • Regius: royal, regal
  • Rusticus: honorable
  • Serius: serious, grave
  • Simplex: simple
  • Tersus: clean, neat
  • Tutis: protected, safe, secure
  • Vetus: old
  • Zingiber: xylobones

Can't wait to share what I learned with my friends!!!!  Maybe one day I'll write an article on this for the Washington Wizardry.  Love that paper.
